The 2016 Boys & Girls Club of South Logan County Soccer League concluded its fall season on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Through nine weeks of play, 13 teams, consisting of 124 area boys and girls, ages 4 through 13, who registered for the program, participated in a total of 76 games and a tournament in Charleston.

Games on the U8, U10, U12, and U14 levels also included other youth in matches with Alma, Charleston, Greenwood, Mansfield, Mountainburg, and Paris.

It was a year of growth for the program as all statistics were up over the previous year, and one of the fields at the developing soccer field complex was used for five 5 U12 and U14 games.

The Boys & Girls Club appreciates their volunteer coaches and support parents for their many hours of service; the school district for use of grounds; Chevy Youth Soccer, Hug Chevrolet Buick GMC; State Farm Foundation for financial and equipment resources; and CV’s Foods for their in-kind support of the year-end picnic.

During the week of Nov. 7 the Club began its elementary school basketball registration process. This past year’s program involved 110 players, and the Club is expecting the 2016–2017 league to be just as busy.

Boys and girls in 1st through 6th grades are invited to participate. The Boys & Girls Club league focuses on providing a fun and positive experience, teaching and developing basketball fundamentals and skills, and encourages balance between recreational and competitive play.

Registration will continue through Nov. 21 with team drafts beginning Nov. 22. Games are planned to begin Jan. 5, and will be played on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings at the Club. For more information, call the Club at 675-2764.
