Two long third quarter runs by Xavier Hernandez turned a 22-0 Magazine Junior High halftime lead into a one possession game. Two Tatum Scott touchdowns in the final quarter removed any doubt as the Rattlers closed out the 2016 season with a 34-14 win over Western Yell County Tuesday night in Havana.

Two Kobe Faughn touchdowns had powered the Rattlers (9-0, 6-0 Conference 4A-4) to a 22-0 halftime lead.

Terrance Thurman recovered a Wolverine fumble on the second play of the game to set up the first score for the Rattlers. Eleven plays later Faughn scored from the 1 on fourth down to make it 6-0.

After Johnson’s touchdown, Faughn added the conversion for a 14-0 lead.

A Faughn interception and return of 36 yards set the Rattlers up at the WYC 19 with 2:48 left in the half and eight plays later Faughn scored from the 6 on the final play of the half. Scott ran for the two point conversion and a 22-0 lead.

Faughn finished with 68 yards on nine carries as Magazine ran for 275 yards.

The Rattlers started the second half with a Caleb Hyatt punt to the WYC 13 and a tackle for a loss by Thurman but Hernandez went 88 yards on the next play to make it 22-6.

Scott returned the kickoff to the Wolverine 36 and Magazine eventually had a first-and-goal at the 5 before turning the ball over on downs at the 17.

Hernandez went 83 yards the next play and it was 22-14 with the two point conversion with 9 seconds left in the third quarter.

Scott returned the kickoff to midfield and, after the quarter break, started the final quarter with a touchdown run to make it 28-14 with 7:49 remaining.

Thurman’s second fumble recovery gave the Rattlers the ball back with 6:41 to play and on a third-and-11 Scott went 45 yards to make it 34-14 with 5:04 left.
