Doyle L. Garrett, 93, of Magazine, Arkansas was born May 15, 1924 in Gertie, Okla., to Clara and D.L. Garrett. He passed away Aug. 21, 2017 at his home in Magazine.

Doyle was a retired superintendent for the Magazine School District. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the 116 Calvary Recognizance Division and was assigned to the 5th Army Head Quarters. He also served several months as a body guard for Gen. Mark Clark. Doyle earned four bronze stars for combat in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Magazine and the Retired Teachers Association. He is preceded in death by his parents before mentioned along with his wife, Marie Garrett; daughter, Linda Garrett; brother, Lowell Garrett.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Magazine. With burial following at Moores Chapel Cemetery in Waveland under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Booneville.

Doyle is survived by his, wife Grace Garrett of the home; son, Larry Garrett and wife Judy of Magazine; grandchildren, Dustin Garrett, Destini Garrett and Chris Eckles; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, Aug. 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home.
