John D. Roberts, 59, of Magazine, Arkansas, passed from this life on Sunday, April 2, 2017 in his home in Magazine. He was born Jan. 28, 1958 in Athens, Texas to the late Bennie W. and Virginia (Lovett) Roberts.
He was formerly a carpenter, EMT, and a member of the Arkansas National Guard. He was a member of the Old Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was currently serving on the City Council in Magazine. He was retired from the Magazine Volunteer Fire Department and was the founder of the Southern Rhythm Band.
He is preceded in death by a sister, Judy Beard and his parents mentioned previously.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Magazine, under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
John D. is survived by his wife Marilyn Kay Roberts of the home; one daughter, Ami Roberts of the home; one son, Forrest Roberts of Booneville, one stepdaughter, Brandi Cox of Fort Smith; one stepson, Justin Cox of Magazine, two sisters, Monta Scharbor (David) of Booneville and Ladonna Brahler of Booneville; mother-in-law, Nina Mae Bristow of Booneville, one granddaughter, Hannah Cox; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Honorary Pallbearers will be E.O. “June” Roberts, Gary DeWitt, Randy Young, Ed Higgs, Larry Garrett, Tommy Staton, Neal Wade, Tim Sanders, Stanley McConnell, David Hogan, R.H. Johnson, Robert Curtis and members of the Magazine Volunteer Fire and Police Departments.
