What’s better than one rodeo to a rodeo fan? Two rodeos.

The South Logan County Riders will be hosting their second rodeo of the year this weekend at the Booneville Rodeo Arena, located about four miles south of town on Highway 23. The CRRA/ARCA rodeo will begin at 8 p.m. on both Aug. 23 and 24.

South Logan County Riders president Raymond Turner said the addition of a second rodeo is kid driven.

"We’re just trying to get the community behind us and it’s something for these kids to do. It keeps them out of mischief," said Truner. "Every one of these kids wants to compete."

Chigger Valley Rodeo Livestock in Magazine is providing the stock for the rodeo. Books opened on Aug. 20. Chigger Valley can be contacted at 479-965-0441. There will be $1,600 in added money for the rodeo.

The customary rodeo fare of team roping, breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, and junior and senior barrel racing will be on tap for both nights of the rodeo.

Unlike the rodeo that kicked off the summer in May, the August rodeo will not have a parade or queen and princess contests.

Anyone wishing to bring a horse to the rodeo grounds will be required to produce a negative coggins report.
