One of the events scrubbed by the early December ice storm, the Ethan Napier Toy Toss for the Logan County Marine Crops Toys for Tots drive was held last week during the Booneville-Waldron senior girls game.

After Logan Lyle made an uncontested basket — Waldron had scored off the opening tip on another unchallenged shot — fans littered the floor with scores of plush toys which were quickly bagged and taken away from the court.

All toys will be used for children ages birth to 18 in Logan County.

The first toy toss was held last year just four days after the passing of Napier, 20, from a birth defect in his heart that was undetectable, his mother Lisa Napier says. The final determination was Cardiomyopathy plus Hypertensive Heart Disease and Coronary Artery Atherosclerosis.

Lisa Napier said her family was appreciative of naming the event for Ethan, whose kindergarten class prophecy, was to grow up and be Santa Claus.

"I always told him I thought it was the best profession to get into and he would make the perfect Santa Claus," says Lisa Napier. "When he was growing up, every year he would go through all his toys and pick out some to give to needy kids, he loved doing this and helping deliver them also."
