The Booneville City Council approved $1,000 “incentive” awards for city employees when it met last week.
Traditionally the council approves a Christmas bonus for employees in November but audit regulations now prevent use of the term, according to City Clerk Gayleene West.
The vote to award the incentives was 3-0. There were only four aldermen at the meeting, one of which is city employee Robert Smith, who did not take part in the vote.
In other matters last week councilmen were also given a proposed 2019 budget for the city and a proposed salary schedule for city employees.
The salary schedule does not call for raises for employees and the budget is very tight according to West.
The council is expected to take action on the budget and salary proposals when it meets for it final regularly scheduled meeting on Dec. 17.
The council typically meets on the fourth Monday of a month but that falls on Christmas Eve in December.
