A Fort Smith man was arrested Thursday after allegedly waving a toy gun at traffic.
John Chesley Beasley, 48, was arrested Thursday morning on suspicion of felony aggravated assault in relation to the incident. Fort Smith police arrested Beasley after receiving calls around 8 a.m. about a man threatening motorists with a handgun near Grand Avenue and North 11th Street, police Cpl. Anthony Rice said.
By arresting Beasley, police avoided Darby Jr. High getting shut down or the possibility of him walking into a nearby convenience store, Rice said.
Beasley remained in custody Tuesday afternoon at the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center in lieu of a $2,500 bond, according to arrest records.
