Filing period ended Friday with mayor, two council position races.

The most popular folks in Logan County between now and Dec. 4, will likely be the 2,004 registered voters within the city limits of Booneville.

That’s because five men are looking to be the mayor of Booneville from 2019-2022 and those are the voters who will decide who gets the job.

Filing for municipal candidates ended at noon Friday with the crowded field for mayor and two races for city council positions in Booneville.

Mayoral candidates are, alphabetically, Edgar Baker, Aaron Brewer, Bob Halford, Harold Kimbrell and Jerry Wilkins. Wilkins is the four term incumbent.

Joe Earp and Derrick Wagoner are both seeking the Ward 3, Position 2 seat on the council. The seat was previously held by Milburn Brewster, who is not seeking reelection.

The only other race is in Ward 1, Position 1 where Alton Shackleford and Guy Robson are seeking to replace Brewer, who had unseated Robson in 2016.

Gayleene West is also seeking a second term as City Clerk and incumbent council candidates Eddie Gossett (Ward 1, Position 2), Robert Smith (Ward 2, Position 1), Brad Smith (Ward 2, Position 2) and Steve Reid (Ward 3, Position 1) are unopposed.

All residents vote for all city office positions.

The voter pool could increase between now and the General Election on Nov. 6 as the deadline to register to vote for the election is Friday, Oct. 5.

Early voting in the General Election will begin on Monday, Oct. 22.

Unless a candidate is able to secure more than 50 percent of the vote a runoff in the mayor’s race will be held on Dec. 4.

In Magazine there are no races as Stan McConnell is unopposed for mayor and incumbent council members Donald West (Ward 1, Position 1), Russell “Hank” Weaver (Ward 1, Position 2), Sammie Smith (Ward 2, Position 1), John D. Jones (Ward 2, Position 2), Heather Knox (Ward 3, Position 1) and Joe B. Cheney (Ward 3, Position 2) are all unopposed.

Like McConnell, all are incumbents, although Knox was appointed to her position.

The same is true of Blue Mountain where Mayor Dale Dickens is unopposed as are incumbent council members Bradley Keahey in Position 1, Jason Collier in Position 3, Debbie Dickens in Position 4 and Juanita Garnier in Position 5.

Nobody filed for Position 2. Elaine Lippard previously held the position.
