City Hall was inundated with phone calls last week about snakes in Marcelle Phillips City Park and is taking steps to eradicate the reptiles.

Booneville Police Chief Al Brown said he has been in contract with Arkansas Game & Fish officials and the city is looking for ways to rid the creek of the snakes, but doing so will not be easy because of the large number of them.

“I went out to look by the dam this morning and I saw six of them swimming around, some big ones, some little ones,” Brown said Friday.

He added that while weed eating on the other side of the park, city employees saw several more.

For those reasons, Brown said, parents and kids might want to stay away from the water areas and also be on the lookout at all times while in the park.
