The Booneville Chamber of Commerce picked up two ALFiE awards at the annual Arkansas Festivals & Events Association Conference & Trade Show held in El Dorado Feb. 7 and 8.

Both awards were related to the Chamber’s operation of the 49th annual Arkansas Marathon, which was held in October.

The Chamber won the Gold award for best souvenir at an event for the finisher medals presented to those who completed the 26.2 mile race from Main Street to just across the Scott County line and back.

The medal was rated above souvenirs from the Main Street Food Truck Festival in Little Rock, which received the Silver award, and the Miss Arkansas Scholarship Pageant, which received the Bronze award.

As an event, the Arkansas Marathon was also named the Bronze award winner in the category of Sporting Event of the Year. Gold in the category went toi the Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout and Silver went to the statewide Simmons Bank Big Bass Bonanza.

The awards are the first for the Booneville Chamber, which has been a member of the Arkansas Festivals & Events Association for a year, according to Chamber Executive Director Susan Featherston.
