Harps Foods is turning its Grand Avenue grocery store in Fort Smith into a 10Box Cost Plus Food Store, one of the company’s brands that also includes Cash Saver and Price Cutter.
Remodeling of the store at 3100 Grand Ave. is ongoing and the conversion to 10Box Cost Plus is scheduled to be completed for a grand opening 10 a.m. March 21.
The Fort Smith 10Box store will be the eighth store of the Cost Plus format, which offers foods for “cost plus 10 percent” to cover operation costs. Shoppers bag their own purchases.
There are 10Box stores located around Arkansas in Conway, Russellville, Springdale, Rogers and Corning as well as Poplar Bluff, Mo. The latest 10Box is scheduled to open Feb. 14 at Ada, Okla.
J. Max Van Hoose, vice president of Store Planning for Springdale-based Harps Foods, said the Grand Avenue store’s deli section has been removed as part of the conversion but the revamped store will have about the same number of employees.
Details are still being worked out on the store pharmacy.
A news release says the store will employ more than 70 associates.
“Items are marked at a price that is 10Box’s best effort to arrive at the actual cost of the item, including all costs associated with getting it from the product’s source to the shelf,” a news release from Harps Foods states.
The Fort Smith 10Box Cost Plus Food Store will offer a selection of fresh beef, pork and poultry, fresh fruits, vegetables and a variety of frozen, dairy and packaged groceries as well as an expanded variety of authentic Mexican products, the release adds.
Van Hoose said the Grand Avenue store was purchased from Harvest Foods in the mid-1990s.
