At least five times in the last month animal control officer David Hogan has received phone calls asking if he picked up a resident’s dog. He had not.
The calls all had one thing in common. The missing animal was what Hogan said would be classified as a small dog — Yorkie, a poodle, terriers and Chihuahuas.
“There have been more than that,” said Hogan. “But those are just the ones in the last month. I just think we need to warn people to watch their small dogs until we figure out who’s doing this.”
Hogan said the dogs are apparently taken from residents’ yards or are induced to come into the street and then taken.
While he said he can only speculate he would guess the animals are sold or used for breeding.
“None of (the residents) have called back to say they found their dog,” said Hogan.
