Fort Smith Mayor Sandy Sanders will sign a proclamation Monday, recognizing November as National Hospice and Palliative Care Month, according to a news release.
Peachtree Hospice Provider Relations Manager Liz Martin explained by phone that hospice care is end-of-life care for patients who have a diagnosis with no cure or treatment, while palliative care is for patients who have a chronic illness.
"There is no cookie-cutter patient when it comes to hospice and palliative care," she said.
National Hospice and Palliative Care Month is about raising awareness and educating patients on how to talk to their doctor about their options for treatment, Martin said.
Sanders will sign the proclamation 10:30 a.m. Monday at his office, 623 Garrison Ave.
