LITTLE ROCK – Melanie Schmitt of Booneville has been named a recipient of the Parsons-Burnett Scholarship Grant. These scholarships are given each year to practicing educators for the purpose of furthering their education.

Melanie Schmitt is a 9th-12th grade Family and Consumer Science teacher in the Hackett School District. She is a graduate of Booneville High School.

She received a Bachelor of Science from Harding University and a Master of Science from the University of Central Arkansas and plans to use the funds to complete a PhD in Family and Consumer Sciences Education from Texas Tech.

Four scholarships were given this year in conjunction with the ARTA Annual Convention on Tuesday, Sept. 26.

ARTA was formed in 1939-40 with 15 members. Today, it has more than 12,500 members who work together to protect and improve the professional, personal, social and economic welfare of retired (and future retired) school employees. The scholarships are funded by contributions from members and others.
