Jeffrey W. Whitman has been formally charged with unlawful burning for tossing what has been described as a large firecracker into the yard of an Arkansas State Trooper.

On Feb. 6, the Trooper heard an explosion outside his home and after discovering a fire in his yard pursued a truck from outside his residence. The truck was stopped less than two miles from the Trooper’s residence.

Whitman, 46, and two other individuals were in the vehicle and Whitman confessed to tossing the explosive device into the Trooper’s yard.

Unlawful burning is a Class C felony.

Conducting the investigation were representatives of the Magazine Police Department and Logan County Sheriff’s office, according to arrest warrant affidavit.
