A fire that destroyed the home at 80 West Sixth Street in Booneville last Wednesday morning apparently started outside the home.

According to Eric Rogers of the Booneville Fire Department the fire appeared to have started in an outbuilding where several things were stored, including flammable materials. The fire then spread to the home and threatened the neighbor’s home as well.

Among the items in the outbuilding were all terrain vehicles.

The daughter of the homeowner said there was nobody home at the time of the fire.

The fire call was placed shortly after 9:20 after a caller, described as a kid, notified the fire and had his mother place a 9-1-1 call according to Booneville Police Department Chief Al Brown.

About a half dozen firemen with the Booneville Fire and Booneville Rural Fire Departments responded to the blaze.
