Christmas events will get underway in South Logan County on Friday with the annual Christmas tree lighting at City Hall. The 35th annual Booneville Christmas parade will be held the following night through downtown.

The winners of the tree decorating contest, conducted since its inception by the Booneville Garden Club, will be announced during Friday night’s ceremony, which will include a Santa visit, carollers and refreshments.

A total of 30 trees were placed earlier this week, but that, albeit delayed by rainfall. The trees should be decorated by various organizations during the week and judged sometime Friday.

Saturday’s parade, which has a theme of “A Vintage Christmas” begins at 6 p.m. and will travel the traditional route from Kennedy and Main (Highway 10) to the intersection of Broadway, turning right and continuing to First Street.

Santa will also ride in and be around following Saturday’s parade.

Saturday will begin with the Booneville Lions Club holding its 62nd annual all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast at the Booneville Community Building from 7 to 11 a.m.

The 15th annual Magazine Christmas parade, which has a theme of “Frosty” will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10.
