Every year, Logan County 4-Hers can participate in an event called the Poultry Chain. In April, at the beginning of the project, members are given 25 chicks to raise at no cost to them.

The chicks are a cross breed called Bovan Browns and come from a certified hatchery through the University of Arkansas.

The 4-Hers are then expected to raise them and bring three of the best of their birds to the fairs to be judged and auctioned to the public. The money raised is used to purchase birds for participants next year, and to support other 4-H projects in Logan County.

This year 32 youth signed up to participate in the Poultry Chain. The auction will take place at the Booneville Fairgrounds at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 6. The public is invited to come view the birds any time during the South Logan County Fair and to bid on them at the auction.
