Here are a few of the things going on in, or a short distance from South Logan County in the coming days.

Valentine Art

Looking for an activity for your Valentine date night? The Fort Smith Regional Art Museum invites you to view the exhibit Will Barnet: Forms & Figures. The special Valentine’s day opening reception will be held Feb. 14, 5 to 7 p.m. RSVP to 479-784-2787.

Will Barnet was an American printmaker and painter known for his elegant portraits and visions of beautiful women and children. This exhibit showcases re-developed ideas of Barnet’s 1960’s works from abstraction to figuration that he never finished. Barnet’s unusual combination of subtly painted, imaginary figurative imagery are enhanced by his newer visions of color and special feeling, which exemplifies his ongoing capacity for reinvention and new perspectives as a man who at the time was nearing 100.

The reception is free for members, or $5 for nonmembers. There will be an pen bar and lite bites provided by R&R’s Curry Express.

UAFS Play

Theatre @ UAFS will perform Dylan Thomas’s play “Under Milk Wood” at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 15-17 and 19-20 in the Breedlove Auditorium on the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith campus as part of the Season of Entertainment 37.

Tickets for the poetic comedy are $6 for the general public and free to UAFS faculty, staff and students. To acquire tickets, contact the UAFS Box Office at 479-788-7300 or http://tickets.uafs.edu. The Breedlove Auditorium is located at 5120 Grand Ave.

Considered “a play for voices,” “Under Milk Wood” chronicles a single day in the small seaside town in Wales that features more than 60 characters and their daily lives, with all the fun, love, loss, sadness and joy that it entails.

“Most people probably know Dylan Thomas from his poetry such as, ‘Do not go gentle into that good night,’” said Bob Stevenson, director of Theatre @ UAFS. “This play, in some ways, is just a really long poem divided up among 60 characters. Thomas himself called it a ‘play for voices,’ and its first presentation was as a radio play.”
