LITTLE ROCK — A Texas man won a $177 million Mega Millions jackpot prize with a ticket he bought in Arkansas, state lottery officials said Monday.

Eliberto Cantu of Lubbock came forward Monday to claim the prize, the largest ever won with a lottery ticket sold in Arkansas. He bought the ticket March 30 at All Stop Valero on East 22nd Street in Stuttgart. Cantu, 71, bought the ticket while working in construction near Hazen.

He is the 55th person to win at least $1 million by playing the lottery in Arkansas.

Lottery officials said Cantu and his family plan to do some traveling and will level and rebuild their home church and its sister church with part of the prize.

The store that sold the ticket to Cantu will receive a $50,000 bonus commission.

Since its launch in 2009, the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery has provided nearly $700 million for in-state college scholarships to Arkansas students, more than $2 billion in prizes to players and more than $190 million in commissions to lottery retailers.
